Who's that knocking....I

Who's that knocking....I

2016

I started collecting these pictures of doorknockers during a holiday trip in Veere in 1976. I noticed that many doors in the old port town had doorknockers with the sea and navigation as a subject. I was fascinated and took about twenty pictures during my stay and that was the start of my 'doorknocker fever' from which I never recovered. Wherever I go, Angola, Morocco, Spain, Russia or Madeira, I cannot resist taking pictures of all the different doors with their various doorknockers. Using your imagination you often can tell by looking at the shape and image of the doorknockers what kind of people live behind those doors. Religeous, rich, poor or animal loving people. It's a pity that the electric door bell has taken over and is ousting these beautiful remains of the 16th century.
